Poets fall to Claremont-M-S, 6-0


CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Whittier College women's soccer team suffered its seventh straight loss on Saturday afternoon as Claremont-M-S scored three goals in each the first and second half en route to a 6-0 win.

The Poets (2-12-2, 0-10-1) earned a 0-0 tie with Claremont-M-S in the team's first meeting but this outcome proved to be different. The Athenas scored its first goal at 3:25 and scoring strikes in the 14th and 17th minutes to take a 3-0 lead.

Olivia Sylvester had an assist and tow goals in the first half for CMS.

Claremont (10-2-2, 8-0-2 SCIAC)otushot the Poets 29-1 for the game and earned three corner kicks to Whittier's zero.

Whittier totaled 12 saves on the afternoon. Lea Betsworth started in net and made six stops in the first half. Gina-Marie DiPierro added six saves in the second half.

The Poets were whistled for offside once in the game. CMS totaled 12 offside calls.

Whittier returns to the field on Tuesday, October 27, as it travels to face La Sierra at 5 pm.
