Poets fall to Occidental 3-0

WHITTIER, Calif. - The Whittier College women's soccer team played tough throughout their conference tilt and final regular season home game with the Occidental Tigers in front of a crowd of 100 but were unable to score falling 3-0.

The Poets (2-14-2 Conf. 0-11-1) were able to rebound from their previous contest with the Tigers where they lost 7-1 but this time around they were able to play solid defense in the first half until a handball was called in the box allowing the Tigers to shoot a PK and get on the board first at the 36th minute.  The Tigers then went into the half leading 1-0.

The Tigers were able to put 20 shots on goal for the game compared to the Poets 5 and were able to capitalize on a couple Poet miscues to score in the 54th and 84th minutes.

Not only did Whittier play in their final regular season home game but they acknowledged their three seniors who were playing in their final home game.  These seniors have contributed tremendously to the women's soccer team over the past few years and they included Mayra Murillo, Amanda Martinez, and Kaitlin Rafferty.

Both Chelsea Irha and Shelly Johiro led the Poets each having a shot on goal.

With the conclusion of the Poets women's soccer season, next year continues to look promising as the Poets look to add more depth and talent into their starting lineup.
