Poets play hard but fall to La Sierra, 2-0

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The Whittier College women's soccer team had its opportunities but fell just short as La Sierra escaped with a 2-0 win over the Poets on Tuesday evening. The purple and gold played LSU to a 0-0 halftime score but allowed goals in the 50th and 52nd minute in the loss.

The Poets (2-13-2) earned a 1-1, double overtime, tie with La Sierra in the team's first meeting. That game was played on September 10 and was Whittier's third game of the season.

Whittier outshot La Sierra for the game, 8-3, and even put more shots on goal but couldn't find the net. Mayra Murillo, Breeann Yamada, Zoe Peirce and Melissa Davidson all had shots on goal for the Poets.

Gina-Marie DiPierro started in goal and made one save for the game.

The Poets return to action for their season finale on Saturday, October 31, as they host SCAIC rival Occidental at 11 am.
