Poets conclude Day 1 of UNLV Winter Invite
LAS VEGAS, NV – The Whittier College women's swimming & diving team concluded Day 1 of the UNLV Winter Invite in Las Vegas against tough competition that included UNLV, New Mexico State, Concordia, Bakersfield, and Azusa Pacific.
The Poets entered Day 1 of the Invite 1-1 in SCIAC play that included a tough loss to Pomona-Pitzer and a win against the Beavers of Caltech.
UNLV's women's swimming and diving team stand in first place after one day of action on Saturday at the UNLV Winter Invitational, held at Buchanan Natatorium.
UNLV has 343.5 points after day one, while New Mexico State is second with 200, Fresno Pacific is third with 69, Cal State Bakersfield is fourth (58), Concordia fifth (58) and Azusa Pacific sixth (15.5).
The Poets were led by Haley Von Schottenstein who finished 8th in the 50 yard free with a time of 24.27, while also joining forces with Erin Bartholomew, Evelyn Beguiristain, and Carsen West in the 200 free relay to finish 17th with an overall time of 1:42.39.
On day two Coach Pudwill expects his girls to make a jump into the standings as the 200 yard medley, 400 IM's, 100 Fly, 200 Free, 100 Breast, 100 Back and the 800 free are all taking place.
The three-day meet continues Sunday and concludes on Monday.
