Women's Tennis Gets 2008 Campaign Under Way at Redlands


Women's Tennis opened their 2008 schedule with a 9-0 loss to the nationally ranked #13 University of Redlands on February 9.  The match was a learning experience for the Poets, who are rebuilding their program with hopes of  competing for a SCIAC Championship in the coming years.

Redland's Katie Bell, who is ranked #25 in the region, had to break serve to win the second set versus Whittier's Jennifer Pigott ‘08 at #1 singles.

 

Two new Poets played their first match, Madison Stern and Brenda Santana playing #3 and #4 singles, respectively, and playing #2 doubles together.  Match results are posted below.

 

The Poets face another SCIAC foe in their next match, taking on the University of La Verne on February 15.  The match is in La Verne, Calif., at 2:00pm.

3. Sutton Andurson, Redlands defeated Madison Stern 6-0,6-0

5. Lauren Kelley, Redlands defeated Bibi Gonzalez 6-1,6-0

6. Carrie McCann, Redlands defeated Cecilia Nava 6-1,6-0

 

Doubles

1. Sumida/Waters, Redlands defeated Pigott/Friedhoff 8-0

2. Miller/Yoshinaga, Redlands defeated Santana/Stern 8-0

3. Kizmarzick/Wakamatsu, Redlands defeated Nava/Gonzalez 8-1
