Women's Tennis Cruises Past Caltech for First Win

Whittier College women's tennis picked up their first win of the year on April 5, beating SCIAC rival Caltech 7-2. 

The Poets got wins from all three doubles teams.  At #1, Jen Pigott '08 and Emily Friedhoff '08 cruised to an 8-1 win.  Brenda Santana '11 and Christa Rainville '08 won 8-3 at #2 and Bibi Gonzalez '09 and Megan Wingo '08 shut out their opponents, 8-0 at #3.

In singles, Whittier won four matches, three in straight sets.  Pigott won 6-1, 6-3 at #1 singles.  At #4, Rainville won the first set 6-1, but fell in the second 6-3.  She bounced back to dominate the tiebreaker 10-2 for the win. 

Gonzalez won easily at #5, 6-0, 6-4 and Wingo took a 6-1, 6-2 victory at #6.

The Poets are on the road for their next match.  They travel to La Sierra University for a non-conference match on April 11 before finishing their SCIAC schedule against Cal Lutheran on April 12.  The SCIAC Tournament is scheduled for April 18 and 19.
