Women’s Tennis opens with 9-0 win over Mills

WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College Women's Tennis team jump-started their 2018-19 season Saturday rolling to the 9-0 sweep over Mills College at the Richard Ettinger Tennis Courts.

The Purple & Gold got out of the gates quickly not dropping a game in doubles as they swept Mills 8-0, 8-0, 8-0.  Kindall Yeung (Fullerton, Calif.) teamed up with Amanda Rodriguez (Glendora, Calif.) at No. 1, Madeline Schmidt-Perez (San Marino, Calif.) and Avery Turner (Austin, TX) were put together at No. 2 and Kallysta Lopez (Whittier, Calif.) and Kiara Embrey (Los Angeles, Calif.) rounded out the doubles squads.

Leading 3-0, the Poets continued to roll in singles sweeping at the No. 2 thru No. 5 spots.  Rodriguez, Lopez, Embrey, and Turner all rolled to 6-0, 6-0 victories.  Yeung had a hiccup in the second set giving up two games as she pulled out the 6-0, 6-2 win and Karissa Lee (Whittier, Calif.) rounded out the scoring pulling out the 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 6.
