Rios-Aguilar finishes 11th at the NCAA Championships


MARIETTA, Ohio - Senior Rosario Rios-Aguilar completed her college career on Friday, May 22, at the NCAA Division III Championships at Marietta College with an 11th place finish in the Heptathlon. Rios-Aguilar totaled 4325 points; 10 points shy of a place in the Top 10.

Just three weeks ago Rios-Aguilar qualified for the NCAA Championships with a new school record in the event with 4478 points. The previous school record was 4291 set in 1989. Her total at the NCAA Championships is the second most all-time in WC history.

The Mexico City native finished in the Top 10 in the Long Jump and 800m with a seventh and eighth place finish, respectively. She had a long jump of 16-feet, 10 and three-quarter inches which earned 601 points.

Her time of 2:23.54 in the 800m gave her 776 points.

Rios-Aguilar finished 13th in the Shot Put and 200m with a distance of 32-feet, seven and three-quarter inches and a time of 27.26 to pick up 526 points and 690 points, respectively.

She went four-feet, 10 and one-half inches in the High Jump (14th place), 90-feet, 11 inches in the Javelin (15th place) and 16.22 in the 100m Hurdles (16th place).

Ashley Huston of Hardin-Simmons won the National Championship in the Heptathlon with 5244 points. Huston finished first in the 100m Hurdles, High Jump and Long Jump and had second place finishes in the 200m and Javelin.
