Whittier Starts Season at Pacific Coast Classic, Poets Go Winless in Tournament

Whittier College lost all four matches they played in the Pacific Coast Classic hosted by Pomona-Pitzer College on September 8 and 9. The Poets were beat by Willamette University in four games (28-30, 30-22, 30-28, 30-25) and the University of California-Santa Cruz in three games (30-17, 30-17, 30-13) on day one. On day two, the Poets were swept by both George Fox University (30-25, 30-21, 30-10) and Lewis and Clark University (30-25, 30-13, 30-17).
Christa Rainville '08 finished with 21 assists
and 14 digs in the loss to Willamette. Bibi Gonzalez
'08 added 15 assists, nine kills and six digs.
Lisset Madgelano '10 led the team with ten kills
and four solo blocks to start her collegiate career.
Jessica Schlegel '08 had 12 digs and Megan
Wingo '08 put down eight kills.
Danell Booher '09 led the way for the Poets
against UC-Santa Cruz. She had a team-high ten digs and seven
kills. Rainville and Gonzalez finished with ten and eight
assists, respectively.
On day two against George Fox, Booher led the team in digs once
again, this time finishing with 13. Gonzalez had ten assists
and six kills. Rainville passed out 12 assists in the
loss.
Against Lewis and Clark, Jennifer Salas '10 led
the way defensively with 16 digs. Rainville had 14 assists
and six kills. Gonzalez chipped in 13 assists and six digs
and Booher hammered six kills and added six digs.
