2007 Poets Volleyball Preview

The Whittier College Volleyball program is under new direction with the addition of head coach Ali Oliver to the Poets coaching staff.  Oliver looks to build on a Whittier team that finished sixth in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference last season.

The Poets return 10 players from 2006, providing Oliver with leadership and experience for 2007.  They were led offensively by Bibi Gonzales ‘08 last season with 124 kills.  Christa Rainville ‘08 led the team with 306 assists.  Jennifer Salas ‘10 finished with a team-high 243 digs last this season to lead the defense.  The Poets also added some talent in the off-season, with senior transfer, Outside Hitter Shanell McMillen and 6'1" freshman Emily Russak. The Poets look to returning Seniors Megan Wingo, Jessica Schlegel and Cassidy Lake to have a strong impact on this year's squad.

The Poets open their season at the Pacific Coast Classic hosted by Pomona-Pitzer on September 7.  SCIAC play begins on September 18, when the Poets host Claremont-Mudd-Scripps
