Volleyball Opens SCIAC Schedule with Loss to CMS

finished with a match-high 13 kills as Whittier College volleyball began play in their Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schedule at home against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on September 18.  The Poets lost in four games, however, 30-22, 30-12, 24-30, 30-21, and see their record fall to 1-6, 0-1.  The 3-1 final tally marks the first time since 2004 Whittier was not swept in a match by the Athenas.

McMillen also added seven digs for the Poets.  Bibi Gonzales '09 finished with six kills.  Jennifer Salas '10 was credited with a team-high 25 digs and two service aces.  She leads the Poets with 126 digs and 5.48 digs per game.  Jessica Schlegel '08 had 13 digs and one ace.

The Athenas were led by Alicia Freeman who finished with ten kills and 13 digs.  Camille Butts and Helena Bottemiller had ten kills apiece.  Greer Donley was credited with a match-high 27 digs.  Kendra Huff added 19 digs.

The Poets take on California Lutheran University in their next contest on September 21.  The SCIAC match is scheduled to start at 7:30pm in the Graham Athletics Center.
