Volleyball Swept by Claremont

Whittier College volleyball resumed its Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schedule at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on October 16.  The Poets lost to the Athenas for the second time this year, 30-27, 30-25, 30-14, to drop their record to 2-14 overall and 1-7 in conference play.

Shanell McMillen '08 led the Poets offensively with eleven kills, and pitched in with five digs.  Lenny Recinos '08 finished with seven kills and six digs.  Jessica Schlegel '08 had a team-high 12 digs and Jennifer Salas '10 added eleven digs.  Christa Rainville '08 assisted on 18 of Whittier's 25 kills in the match.

For the Athenas, Alicia Freeman finished with a match-high 13 kills and had three service aces.  Greer Donley had four aces and a match-high 14 digs.  Jenna Suttmeier had ten digs and six kills.  Kristine Grigsby and Alex Harrison were credited with 19 and 15 assists, respectively.

The Poets travel to California Lutheran University for their next match on October 19.  The match is scheduled to begin at 7:30pm.
