Volleyball Plays Three Games in Two Days


Whittier College volleyball played three matches in two days on October 19 and 20.  On the 19th, they traveled to Thousand Oaks, Calif., and lost 30-18, 30-13, 30-18 to California Lutheran University.  They played a pair of games in Redlands, Calif., on the 20th, losing to Millikin University 30-14, 30-21, 30-25 in non-conference play.  The Poets were swept by SCIAC rival University of Redlands 30-23, 30-24, 30-23 in the second match.  Whittier's record falls to 2-17 overall and 1-9 in SCIAC play.

Lenny Recinos '08 led the Poets with nine kills and 13 digs against Cal Lutheran.  Victoria Larios '11 finished with twelve digs.  Bibi Gonzalez '09 was credited with a team-high nine assists.

Against Milliken, Shanell McMillen '08 had a match-high 12 kills and added six digs.  Recinos finished with eight kills.  Larios was the only Poets with double-digit digs, finishing with ten.  Christa Rainville '08 had 16 assists and eight digs.

In the tight match with Redlands, McMillen hammered 14 kills and pitched in with 14 digs.  Larios led the Poets with 16 digs.  Rainville assisted on 21 of the Poets 33 kills and had three service aces.  Jennifer Salas '10  and Gonzalez finished with eight and seven digs, respectively.

The Poets are at home for their next match, a 7:30pm rendezvous with Occidental College on October 23.
