Volleyball Struggles on the Road Against Claremont
Whittier College Volleyball opened its SCIAC schedule against
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in La Verne, Calif., on September 19.
The Poets lost in straight sets (25-9, 25-18, 25-12), dropping
their record to 2-6 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
The Athenas (7-4, 2-0) committed just nine attack errors in the
match. The Poets matched that total in the one-sided first
set. The Poets struggled with errors all match, committing 21
attack errors and ten service errors.
Keisha O'Brien '10 led the Poets with six kills. Natalia
Barajas '10 finished with five kills. Jennifer Salas '10 had
a team-high eight digs. O'Brien and Barajas each finished
with seven. Sara Araiza '12 was credited with nine
assists.
The Poets take a brief hiatus from SCIAC play to host a three-team
round robin event on September 20. Perennial powerhouses New
York University and Chapman University visit the Graham Athletics
Center for a triple header that starts at 1:00pm.
