Volleyball Wins Back-to-Back Matches

Whittier College Volleyball picked up a pair of wins last week, including their first SCIAC win of the season, against Caltech on October 10 and La Sierra on October 11.  It is the first time this season the Poets have claimed back-to-back wins as their record climbs to 4-15 overall and 1-6 in conference play.

The Poets cruised to a straight-set victory against Caltech 25-17, 25-16, 25-9.  Keisha O'Brien '10 led all players with eleven kills in just 17 attempts.  She also pitched in with five digs.  Frankie Marshall '12 and Shannon Orlins '11 each hammered four kills.  Orlins also led the defense with one solo block and two block assists.  Justine Martinez '12 led the Poets with seven digs.  Alyssa Carillo '12 and Sara Araiza '12 were credited with 20 and 12 assists, respectively.

The following day, the Poets traveled to Riverside, Calif., to take on La Sierra University.  Once again, Whittier disposed of their opponent in straight sets 25-18, 29-27, 25-19.  O'Brien led the way again with 12 kills and 11 digs.  Marshall finished with five kills and Kashima Patridge '11 added four kills of her own and had a match-high five service aces.  Natalie Barajas '10 contributed eight digs.  Araiza handed out 20 assists.

The Poets take a brief hiatus from competition before returning to the court against Pomona-Pitzer on October 21.  The SCIAC match begins at the Graham Athletics Center at 7:30pm.
