Athenas complete season sweep of Poets

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Whittier College volleyball team had its two-match win streak come to an end on Saturday evening as Claremont-M-S defeated the Poets, 3-0, on Saturday evening in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference showdown.

The Poets (6-8, 3-6 SCIAC) managed 20 kills for the match on 103 attempts. Aya Nakano led the team with six kills while Natalie Barajas chipped in with five. As a team the Poets had 13 errors and an attacking percentage of .068.

Vanessa Amran was the only person to record an assist for WC. She finished the contest with 17 and recorded the only service ace.

Kashima Patridge and Shannon Orlins tallied two and one solo blocks, respectively, and Nakano and Justine Martinez led the way with 15 digs apiece.

CMS (10-10, 5-4) won 25-11, 25-18, 25-12.

The Poets return to action on Wednesday, October 14, as they travel to face the University of La Verne at 7:30 pm.
