Whittier releases 2011 volleyball schedule

WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College volleyball team will participate in four tournaments and will play a full conference schedule as head coach Ali Oliver officially released the Poets' 2011 season schedule.

WC will open its season on the weekend of September 9 and 10 at Cal Lutheran where it will play four teams as part of the Cal-Lu-Fornia Invitational.  The non-conference games will include Pacific, East Texas Baptist, George Fox, and Chapman.

The following weekend, the Poets will play their first home games of the season against Mills and Pomona-Pitzer, respectively, before hitting the road for a September 20 date at Redlands.

On September 23 and 24 the purple and gold travel to Chicago, Ill., as they take part in the University of Chicago Tournament. Whittier faces the likes of Elmhurst, Chicago, Central (Iowa) and Loras.

The Poets will then play a series of conference games from September 27 to October 4 before participating in the Leopard Invitational on October 7. Whittier has non-conference tilts slated against UC Santa Cruz and Greensboro.

To round out their tournament schedule the Poets will return to Cal Lutheran for the Fall Classic as they play Wisconsin Lutheran, Widener, Rhodes College and Mary Washington. 

The conference season opens at home, September 17, against the Sagehens and wraps up on November 1 against Caltech.
