ORANGE, Calif. – The Whittier College women's volleyball team traveled to Chapman University to take on the Panthers for the second time this season, but fell in three games 25-16, 25-21, and 25-19.
Head coach Ali Oliver is still seeking her first win of the season and close scores have been a recurring theme this year for the Poets. Junior transfer Alyssa Sialaris who comes from De Anza College paced the Poets with 20 kills to go with four digs and sophomores Alayna Rigo and Lauren Whiteman finished the game with seven kills apiece.
For the game the Poets outhit the Panthers 37-36 but serving errors were their downfall as they turned the ball over nine times. In game No. 3 Whittier took an early lead 11-6 but the Panthers came back to take the lead 15-11 a lead they would not relinquish.
The Poets had chances in every game and had opportunities and numerous kill attempts but Chapman was very scrappy not letting Whittier get any easy points.
Kate Ferrin led the Panther offensive attack with 16 kills, while Corrine Ostrovsky collected 32 assists.
The purple and gold look to bounce back as they have a doubleheader tomorrow, Saturday, September 17 beginning with Mills College at 2:00pm and then opening up SCIAC play against Pomona-Pitzer at 6:00pm.
