Volleyball wraps up Day 2 of Pacific Coast Classic; Move to 2-2

POMONA, Calif. – The Whittier College volleyball team wrapped up Day 2 of the Pacific Coast Classic getting swept by No. 14 Colorado College 26-24, 27-25, 25-19 but bounced back to sweep Alverno College 25-15, 25-11, 25-14.

In game one, Whittier fought throughout the contest but was unable to come away with a "W" despite having senior Alyssa Sialaris have a game high 26 kills on 52 attempts for a .404 hitting percentage.  Junior Alayna Rigo just missed posting her second double double of the season after finishing with ten digs and eight kills.  Lindsey Kish and Torrey Mitsunaga solidified the defense as well posting 10 and 8 digs, each respectively.

Freshman Mitsunaga got the nod at setter and finished with a game high 27 assists. 

In game two, the Purple & Gold bounced back to gather their second win on the season by sweeping Alverno College being led by Rigo who posted 10 kills on 17 attempts for a .471 hitting percentage.  Seven players also recorded kills in the win including Sialaris (8), Megan Kirkpatrick (8), Malia Valdivieso (4), Courtney DeLano (4), Kish (4), Maria Montero (1).

Montero started at setter for the Poets and finished with a game high 20 assists, while Alyssa Acosta finished with six digs.

Whittier now improves to 2-2 on the season and will travel next weekend on Sept. 7-8 to Washington to take part in the Whitman Invitational.
