Water Polo Goes Winless at Slug Fest, Galvin '08 has 14-Goal Weekend

Caroline Galvin '08 scored 14 goals and
assisted on five others, but Whittier College went 0-4 at the
two-day Slug Fest Tournament held at the University of
California-Santa Cruz on March 3 and 4. On day one, the Poets
(3-7) lost 10-8 to UC-Santa Cruz and 12-8 to California State-East
Bay. On the second day of competition, Whittier lost 11-10 to
California State-Monterey Bay and 10-9 to Sonoma State.
Galvin began the weekend with four goals against the
tournament hosts. She also had two steals and two
drawn penalties in the game. Karley Perine
'08 finished with three goals, three assists and two drawn
penalties. Ashley Papenbrock '08 also scored
a goal and assisted on two others. Cheryl Bucholtz
'07 made ten saves in the loss.
Galvin accounted for 75 percent of the Poets' scoring in the
loss to East Bay with six goals. She also had three drawn
penalties and an assist. Papenbrock and Robin
Olmstead '07 each finished with a goal and an
assist. Sarah Wills '09 got the start in
goal and made seven saves.
Against Monterey Bay, Perine led the Poets with a hat trick and two
assists. She also drew four penalties. Galvin and
Olmstead each tallied two goals. Galvin also had two assists
and three drawn penalties. Nicole Sandoval
'08 had a goal, an assist and six steals. Papenbrock
finished with a goal and two assists. Catherine Gouge
'08 also scored a goal. Wills was in goal once again
and made seven saves.
In the final game of the weekend against Sonoma State, Perine led
the way with four goals, two assists and two drawn penalties.
Galvin scored twice and had two assists and two drawn
penalties. Papenbrock finished with two goals, three drawn
penalties, an assist and a steal. Sarah Peel
'10 had a goal, an assist and a steal. Bucholtz made
eight saves in goal.
