Water Polo Cruises Past Caltech, Sandoval '08 Breaks Season Steals Record

Nicole Sandoval '08 was credited with 12.5
steals as Whittier College won 19-4 against the California
Institute of Technology in Pasadena, Calif. on April
18. The Poets are now 10-14 overall and 3-3 in
conference play.
Sandoval, who is already the Whittier College career steals
leader with 327.5 steals, now has 120 steals in 2007. That
total breaks the single season mark of 114.5 steals that she set
last season. Sandoval also scored a goal and had
three assists against Caltech.
Ashley Papenbrock '08 led the Poets on
offense, scoring four goals and assisting on three others.
She also contributed with 3.5 steals. Karley Perine
'08 also tallied four goals and three
assists. Caroline Galvin '08 found the back
of the net four times, giving her a team-high 67 goals this
season. Catherine Gouge '08 finished
with a hat trick. Robin Olmstead '07, Indre Lauraitis
'10 and Sarah Peel '10 each scored
once. Olmstead pitched in with two assists and Peel added an
assist and four steals.
The Poets jumped out to an early lead, holding a 4-1 edge after the first quarter and a 11-3 advantage at halftime. The Poet defense was even tougher in the second half, allowing just one goal. The Poets wrap up the SCIAC regular season at home when the University of Redlands comes to town for a 11am conference clash.
