Water Polo Falls in Final Home Game, Poets #5 Seed in SCIAC Championships

Catherine Gouge '08 scored two goals and had
5.5 steals, but Whittier College lost 11-6 to the University of
Redlands in the final home game of the season on April 21.
The loss makes the Poets (10-15, 3-4) a fifth seed in the upcoming
SCIAC Championships.
Gouge also contributed with two field blocks and a drawn
penalty. Karley Perine '08 scored twice and
was credited with an assist and a steal. Caroline
Galvin '08 scored a goal and assisted on
another. Sarah Peel '10 also scored
a goal and came away with two steals. Cheryl Bucholtz
'07 made two saves in the first half and Sarah
Wills '09 made four saves in the second.
The Poets fell behind early, trailing 4-1 at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter was a defensive battle as each team only scored once. In the second half, the Poets were unable to mount a comeback, with numerous shots hitting the post and not finding the back of the net. The Bulldogs outscored the Poets 4-3 in the third quarter to take a 9-5 lead heading into the final stanza. Whittier scored just once in the quarter, leading to the 11-6 defeat.
