Three Poets earn ACWPC All-Academic honors
WHITTIER, Calif. - The post-season recognition continued for the Whittier College women's water polo team on Wednesday, June 24, as three student-athletes were honored by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWCP) as members of the all-academic team.
Freshman Arianna Weisenburger earned a level of Outstanding as she maintained between a 4.00 and 3.71 grade-point-average. Weisenburger tallied 21 goals and led the Poets with 33 assists. She also drew 19 ejections and came away with 23 steals.
Sophomore Xenia Castillo, who earlier this week was named an honorable mention All-American by the ACWCP, earned a level of Excellent. The student-athletes that earned an excellent held between a 3.40 and 3.20 GPA.
Castillo set a new school record for drawn ejections in a single season with 98. She scored 33 goals and added 20 assists. Defensively she led the team with 60 steals. In addition to her national recognition she was also an All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference performer.
Junior Sarah Peel joined Castillo with an Excellent recognition. Peel ranked second on the team with 43 goals (21 on man up situations) and added 15 assists. She totaled 26 steals and drew 15 ejections.
