CWPA Polls Released; Poets finish season at No. 6
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. - The College Water Polo Association released today the final Div. III Top 10 polls for women's water polo and Whittier College comes in at No. 6 with 73 points dropping a spot from their previous ranking.
Whittier wrapped up their 2011-12 season 14-20, 2-10 SCIAC and collected big wins over:
- George Washington who comes in at No. 9 in the CWPA Div. I/II Poll
- Grove City who is No. 9 in the CWPA Div. III polls
- La Verne who is No. 7 in the CWPA Div. III polls
- Chapman who is No. 8 in the CWPA Div. III polls
But their biggest game of the season came against No. 1 Pomona-Pitzer back on April 21 when they pushed the Sagehens to the brink of a sudden death overtime thriller, which Whittier lost 11-10.
After the SCIAC Championships took place this past weekend there has been a shift in the rankings where Pomona-Pitzer takes over the top spot, while Redlands finishes No. 2, Claremont-M-S at No. 3, Occidental College at No. 4, and Cal Lutheran at No. 5.
In the last poll Whittier was No. 5 but was bumped down a spot after losing twice to Cal Lutheran once back on April 18 and then this past weekend during the 5th Place Game in the SCIAC Championships.
