REDLANDS, Calif. – The Whittier College Women's Water Polo team kept their Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Post Season Tournament hopes alive Wednesday night as they took out the University of Redlands 13-6.

The Purple & Gold currently sit in 4th Place in the SCIAC Standings at 8-15, 6-6 SCIAC with Cal Lutheran and Occidental remaining on the schedule.

UR jumped out on top within the first :20 seconds but saw that dissolve quickly as Whittier would tack on three in a row to end the frame coming from Marina Daroca Bazan (Barcelona, Spain) and Lindsay Shoaff (Costa Mesa, Calif.).

Shoaff struck again to start the second to move the score to 4-1.  After a power play connection from the Bulldogs, Hannah Rodriguez (Riverside, Calif.) and Shoaff would tally goals that moved the advantage to two at the break.

The Poets added another three in the third quarter to keep a marginal lead thanks to Anastacia Gonzalez (Montebello, Calif.) and Shoaff.  But it would be a big final 8:00 minutes for the Purple & Gold that put the game out of reach.  They would go on to blank UR in the period, while getting goals from Shoaff, Kaitlin Vera (Fullerton, Calif.), and Veronica Ramirez (La Habra, Calif.).

Whittier outshot Redlands 28-18 and were 2-for-8 on power-plays.  Shoaff led the offense with a season high six goals and two assists to go with five steals.  Gonzalez and Daroca Bazan added two apiece and an assist, while Vera finished with a goal and two assists.

In goal, Noa Cravens (Laie, HI) picked up the win finishing with five saves and five steals.

Whittier conducts their Senior Day this Saturday, April 14 when they host Cal Lutheran University at 11:00am.
