CHINO, Calif. - The Whittier College women's cross country team finished their 2011 regular season in impressive fashion as they finished in 2nd place overall in the SCIAC Championships only losing to nationally ranked Claremont-M-S.
The Purple and Gold entered the Championships 2nd in SCIAC and ended up placing 2nd in the meet a half place higher than where they finished last year where they tied for 2nd place.
Michele Callaway earned 1st Team All-SCIAC honors with her 7th place finish and she becomes one of a relatively small number of SCIAC cross country runners, all-time, to achieve 1st Team All-SCIAC honors all four years.
Senior Eva Aguilar and junior Adrianna Davidek earned 2nd Team All-SCIAC honors with their outstanding performances finishing in 17th and 19th place, each respectively.
Molly Litherland, Christine Verduzco, and Candace Wray barely missed All-SCIAC honors by a narrow margin placing 21st, 22nd, and 23rd, respectively (Top 20 are All-SCIAC), but raced well never-the-less to fight off another strong challenge from Occidental College who placed 3rd.
The Purple and Gold will look to continue their successful season as they travel to Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday, November 12 where they will take part in the NCAA West Regional beginning at 9am.
