Cross Country Competes at Golden West Invitational, Partida Finishes Fifth


The men's and women's cross country teams traveled to Huntington Beach, Calif., to take part in the twelve-team Golden West Invitational on September 22.  The Poets finished in fifth place on the women's side, while the men finished seventh. 

Darlene Partida '10 was the medalist for the Poets, finishing fifth in the 69-runner field with a time of 18:44 on the 5k course.  Jessica Mena '11 was next across the finish line in 26th place with a time of 20:37.  Adrianna Durflinger '08 was just four seconds behind her in 27th place.  Nadine Rice '11 was 36th in 21:29 and Tessa Padilla '11 rounded out the Whittier top five in 38th place with a time of 21:33.

On the men's side, Thomas Martinez '11 led the Poets in 20th place out of 109 runners with a time of 20:15 on the four-mile course.  Bryce Holewinski '11 finished in 50th place with a time of 21:40.  Nick Daum '08 was 61st in 22:07 and Cameron Pye '10 was 81st in 23:24.

The Poets are in action again at the SCIAC Multi-Dual Championship on October 13.  The meet is scheduled to begin at La Mirada Park at 4pm.
