Cross Country Season Underway at Bulldog Invitational
2007 All-West Region runner Darlene Partida '10 continued where
she left off with a 10th place finish at the Redlands
Invitational on September 13. Partida led the women to a
fifth place finish, while the men finished sixth.
Partida finished the 6K course in 24:26.16. Michele Callaway
'12 finished 20th in the 131-runner field with a time of
24:59.23. Molly Litherland '12 was the third Poet across the
finish line in 29th place with a time of 25:10.76.
Candace Wray '12 finished 31st in 25:13.24 and Carly
Tillery '12 rounded out the Poets top five in 58th place
with a time of 26:28.33. With the fifth place finish, the
women placed ahead of SCIAC rivals Occidental and La Verne.
There were eleven schools competing.
On the men's side, Travis Airola '12 led the Poets with a
31st place finish with a time of 28:32.00. Sean
Arps '12 was just two spots behind Airola in 28:35.12. Thomas
Martinez '11 finished 35th with a time of
28:37.94. Kevin Mancilla '12 was 40th in the
118-runner field with a time of 28:46.20 and Marvin Cano '12
rounded out the Poet top five in 56th with a time of
29:22.53. Whittier finished in sixth of nine teams and was
three team points ahead of regionally ranked Redlands.
The Poets are in action again on September 20, when they take part
in the Westmont Invitational in Santa Barbara, Calif. The
meet begins at 9:00am.
