Men's Cross Country Takes Third at Westmont Invite; Women Finish Seventh

Whittier College Cross Country traveled to Santa Barbara,
Calif., for the Westmont Invitational on September 20. The
Poet men turned in a third place performance in the seven team
field. The women, without All-West Region runner Darlene
Partida '10, finished seventh of ten teams.
The top five runners for the men finished in the top 30 out of 73
participants. Sean Arps '11 led the Poets with an
11th place finish in 27:55.67. Travis Airola '12
finished 18th with a time of 28:21.30 on the 8k
course. Thomas Martinez '11 was the third Poet across the
finish line in 21st place with a time of 28:33.60.
Rounding out the top five was Kevin Mancilla '12 and Juan Bustos
'12 in 24th and 28th place, respectively.
On the women's side, Carly Tillery '12 was the medalist in
33rd place out of 103 runners with a time of
21:37.59. Sara Gomez '12 was two spots behind Tillery in
21:38.80. Jessica Mena '11 finished the 6k course in
21:44.59, good for 37th place. Eva Aguilar '12
(49th place) and Nadine Rice '11 (50th)
finished with times of 22:08.78 and 22:09.35, respectively.
The Poets travel to Riverside, Calif., on September 27th
for the UC Riverside Invitational. The meet is scheduled to
begin at 7:30am.
