Cross Country Travels to Oklahoma

Whittier College Cross Country ventured to the Midwest for the
Cowboy/Cowgirl Jamboree hosted by Oklahoma State University on
October 4. The Poets performed well at the meet, with the
women finishing fifth and the men taking ninth place.
The Poet women ended up with a team score of 212 points.
Butler Community (KS) won the 26-team event with 72 points.
218 runners competed in the event. Michele Callaway '12 was
the first Poet across the finish line in 18th place with
a time of 19:42 on the 5,000-meter course. Darlene Partida
'10 finished 33rd in 20:06 and Molly Litherland '12 was
39th in 20:14. Candace Wray '12 finished
60th, posting a time of 20:42. Anna Edwards '12
rounded out the scoring for the Poets with an 85th place
finish in 21:19.
On the men's side, the Poets finished ninth with 282 points.
Cowley (KS) finished first of 27 teams with 90 points. The
men's event had 242 competitors. Sean Arps '12 was the
medalist for the Poets with a 44th place finish in 27:35
on the 8,000-meter course. Thomas Martinez '11 was next
across the finish line in 57th place with a time of
27:57. Travis Airola '12 finished 66th and Kevin
Mancilla '12 finished 68th with times of 28:09 and
28:13, respectively. Rounding out the top five was Bryce
Holewinski '11 in 74th place with a time of 28:24.
The Poets will take a week off to prepare for the SCIAC Multi-Duals
on October 18. The event will be held at La Mirada Park at
9:00am.
