Women Finish Fourth at 2008 SCIAC Cross Country Championships

Michele Callaway '12 finished third to lead the Whittier College
Women's Cross Country team to a fourth place finish at the 2008
SCIAC Cross Country Championships on November 1. The Poet men
finished in sixth place with 146 team points.
For the second straight season a Whittier College woman finished
third at the SCIAC Cross Country Championships. Darlene
Partida '10 finished third last season. The Poets had 97 team
points on the day to finish fourth out of seven teams.
Claremont-Mudd Scripps won the SCIAC Championship with 34 team
points.
Callaway took third out of 105 runners with a time of
23:28.67. Partida also finished in the top ten, taking eighth
place with a time of 24:08.86 on the 6,000-meter course.
Molly Litherland ‘12 was the third Poet across the finish
line in 23rd place (25:10.94). Candace Wray '12
was 26th in 25:14.83 and Eva Aguilar ‘12rounded
out the top five in 39th place with a time of
25:56.90.
The men finished with 146 points to finish sixth out of seven
teams. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps won the team title with 37 team
points. Sean Arps '11 was the medalist for the Poets,
finishing in 24th out of 92 runners. He finished
with a time of 27:38.85. Thomas Martinez '11 ended up in
32nd place with a time of 28:06.06 on the 8,000-meter
course. Juan Bustos '12 was 36th in 28:12.50 and
Kevin Mancilla '12 was 39th in 28:18.96. Bryce
Holewinski '11 finished 45th in 28:38.83 to round out
the Poets scoring.
The Poets travel to Salem, Ore., for the NCAA Division III West
Regionals on November 15.
