Callaway finishes strong at the NCAA Championships
CLEVELAND, Ohio - Michele Callaway successfully completed her 2009 cross country season at the NCAA Division III National Championships as she finished in the top 35 percent of the field at Baldwin Wallace College on Saturday morning.
Callaway placed 97th out of a field of 279 and was the fourth runner out of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference to cross the finish line. The sophomore runner clocked in at 23:35.9.
Junior Wendy Pavlus of St. Lawrence (N.Y.) won the individual championship. Pavlus' winning time was 21:28.00. Senior Alicia Freese of Pomona-Pitzer as the top SCIAC finisher with a 16th place finish in 22:32.2.
In two season's Callaway is a two-time All-SCIAC performer, a two-time All-West Region runner and a two-time national qualifier.
Last season at the National Cross Country Championship, Callaway finished 96th in a time of 22:28.23 in Handover, Ind.
