NEWBERG, Ore. – The Whittier College baseball team traveled to Newberg, Oregon yesterday to take on George Fox University in a three game series but came away with a 5-3 loss in game one.

The series rounds out the Poets non-conference schedule as they drop to 6-19, 3-9 SCIAC.

The Purple & Gold couldn't hold leads of 2-0 and 3-1 Friday as the Bruins rallied in the 8th to take game one.

Dante Mancia (La Mirada, Calif.) was sharp on the bump going 7.0 innings strong giving up just one run on five hits en route to the no decision.  Tim Turpen (Chino Hills, Calif.) gave up the big inning pitching .2 giving up four runs on three hits, as he was charged with the loss.

Whittier managed a run in the 3rd and 4th innings to go in front off a Hank Burditt (Granada Hills, Calif.) sacrifice fly to right that scored Dmitri Washington (Peoria, AZ) and Jake Raynaud (Los Gatos, Calif.) doubling to right center that plated Matthew Macey (Oceanside, Calif.).

Raynaud singled down the right field line in the 6th that again scored Macey, which stretched the lead to 3-1 but it wouldn't hold as George Fox would put together four runs in the 8th off a double from Brandon Wileman and a single from Connor Newell that turned the momentum giving it right back to GFU.

Raynaud led the offense finishing with a 3-4 afternoon with two runs batted in.  Macey was 1-2 scoring twice and Brandon Mulrooney (Placentia, Calif.) registered a 2-4 effort.
