WHITTIER, Calif. – A couple days after being named 3rd Team All-West Region by d3baseball.com, senior Matthew Macey (Oceanside, Calif.) was selected to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings All-West Region 3rd Team.
This season Macey was also named 1st Team All-SCIAC, 3rd Team All-West Region by d3baseball.com, and was named to the d3baseball.com Team of the Week back on April 17.
This season he put up big numbers playing all 40 games batting .385 with 55 hits, which included 17 doubles, three triples and four homeruns. He drove in 28 and scored 37 times, while putting up a .497 OB% and a .629 SLG%. Within SCIAC he ranked No. 2 in slugging percentage, No. 4 in batting average, on-base percentage and doubles, No. 5 in walks, No. 7 in triples, and No. 8 in total bases.
The ABCA All-America team was first recognized in 1949 and now includes nine divisions: NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA Divisions I, II and III, Pacific Association Division, and high school. ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove teams were first recognized in 2007.
The ABCA, founded in 1945, is the primary professional organization for baseball coaches at the amateur level. It's over 8,200 members represent all 50 states and 23 countries. Since its initial meeting of 27 college baseball coaches in June 1945, Association membership has broadened to include eight divisions: NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA, Pacific Association Division, High School and Youth. The 73rd annual ABCA Convention will be held Jan. 5-8, 2017 in Anaheim, California.
