Izaiah Williams enters his first season as Linebackers coach at Whittier College after coaching defensive backs at Dixie State University (St. George, UT). In 2016 Williams had three players earn Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) recognition for outstanding performance with CB Tyneil Cooper being selected 1st Team All-RMAC, CB Jaylen Moore earning RMAC “Defensive Freshman of the Year” as well as All-RMAC Honorable Mention, and Safety Colton Olson earning All-RMAC Honorable Mention.
Prior to Dixie State Williams was a defensive graduate assistant at New Mexico State from 2013-16, where he coached defensive backs and outside linebackers. While at NMSU Williams worked closely with long time NFL coach Larry Coyer (Jets, Broncos, Buccaneers, Colts, Redskins) when he was the defensive coordinator at NMSU in 2014. During his time coaching for New Mexico State Williams coached CB Cameron Fuller (2013 Undrafted Rookie Free Agent- San Francisco 49ers), Safety Davis Cazares (2013 1st Team FBS All-Independent), and CB Winston Rose (2015 Undrafted Rookie Free Agent: Los Angeles Rams, 2014 All-Sun Belt Conference Honorable Mention - DB)
Before his time at NMSU, Williams held the position of defensive quality control at Northwestern University where he worked with Linebackers. During the 2012-13 season Northwestern went 10-3 overall and won the Gator Bowl. This marked Northwestern’s first 10-win season since 1995 and first bowl win since 1949. In 2011-12, Williams served as the program intern and special teams quality control assistant.
In 2010 Williams was the wide receiver / defensive backs coach at Urbana High School in Urbana, IL. In his one year at Urbana High School helping the program rebuild, Williams coached Cameron Mammen (2010 All-Big 12 Conference: DB, 2010 News Gazette 2nd Team All Area: DB, 2010 Team MVP) and Kameron Fry (2010 All-Big 12 Conference: WR, 2010 News Gazette All Area Special Mention: WR, 2010 Team Most Improved Award).
Prior to Urbana High School, Williams began his coaching career a graduate assistant and running backs coach at his alma mater Humboldt State University from 2008-10. In 2009 Williams had two players earn post season conference recognition with RB Corey Stollmeyer being selected to 1st Team All Great Northwest Athletic Conference: All-Purpose and RB Bobby Thomas also selected to 2nd Team All Great Northwest Athletic Conference: RB.
Williams is a native of Pacific Grove, Calif. After a suffering a series of devastating injuries through his high school career he eventually became a two-way starter at Monterey Peninsula College in 2003; starting multiple games at Cornerback, Safety, and Running back. Williams transferred to Humboldt State University where he was a Running Back and Kick Returner from 2004-2007. His football career at HSU ended after suffering a neck injury his senior year.
Williams earned a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from Humboldt State in 2007.He is married to Motoko Furuhashi.
