WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College Men's Basketball schedule for the 2019-20 season was officially announced Tuesday by Head Coach Mark Jensen.
After an early exhibition contest against La Sierra University the Purple & Gold now set their sights towards this weekend, November 8-9 when they host Linfield College (Friday, Nov. 8 @ 7:00pm) and The University of Texas at Dallas (Saturday, Nov. 9 @ 3:00pm).
Following a week of preparation, Whittier will then travel back East for two days, November 22-23 when they will take on Washington and Lee and Southern Virginia. Then to wrap up November competition they will host Dallas (Friday, Nov. 29 @ 2:00pm) and Maine-Presque Isle (Saturday, Nov. 30 @ 2:00pm).
Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) play begins the first week of December with the Poets hosting the University of La Verne on Wednesday, Dec. 4 at 5:00pm. They remain in SCIAC play the very next weekend when they take on Cal Lutheran University inside of the Graham Athletic Center on Saturday, December 14 beginning at 3:00pm. Their next travel will be to Santa Cruz, where they will take part in the Banana Slug Classic on Dec. 21-22. They match-up with Lewis & Clark (Dec. 21 @ 3:00pm) and Denison (Dec. 22 @ 1:00pm).
A tough exhibition awaits the Purple & Gold the very next Sunday, December 29 when they travel down to San Diego to take on the Toreros of Uni. of San Diego. Then to wrap up 2019 they then return home on New Year's, Tuesday, December 31 to host UC Santa Cruz.
The month of January includes seven SCIAC match-ups with only two of them being at home. Five of the first six are on the road against Claremont-M-S (January 4 @ 5:00pm), Caltech (January 8 @ 7:00pm), Pomona-Pitzer (January 15 @ 7:00pm), Occidental (January 18 @ 2:00pm), and Redlands (January 25 @ 5:00pm). The only two at home are against Chapman (January 11 @ 2:00pm) and Caltech (January 29 @ 7:00pm).
The rest of the conference schedule finishes in February with another seven games occurring, but this time with four being inside the GAC. They host Claremont-M-S early on February 1 @ 2:00pm and then have a three-game homestand from February 15-22 where they will take on Occidental (Feb. 15), Pomona-Pitzer (Feb. 19), and Redlands (Feb. 22). The final three games of the year will take place on the road against La Verne (Feb. 5 @ 7:00pm), Chapman (Feb. 8 @ 2:00pm), and Cal Lutheran (Feb. 25 @ 7:00pm).
