CHICO, Calif. - The Whittier College men's golf team put forth a valiant effort on Tuesday's final round of the InterWest Wildcat Classic finishing 9th overall with a 621, which was good enough to edge Division II Cal State Dominguez Hills (622) and Chico State ("B") (625).
Weather played a factor to start the InterWest Wildcat Classic effectively cancelling the first round. After a five hour delay due to heavy winds, Whittier College finally got to tee off at The Links at Rolling Hills.
After a slow start the Poets found their rhythm on the first day finishing with a 313. Tyler Hoefferle (San Dimas, Calif.) led the contingent with a 74 and was closely followed by Nicholas Medeiros (Riverside, Calif.) (76) and Tyler Bliss (Glendora, Calif.) (77). Alex Valadez (Anaheim, Calif.) and Tiger Fawaz (San Bernardino, Calif.) rounded out the scorers with an 85-88.
The Purple & Gold rebounded nicely on the second day of competition improving five strokes shooting a 308 led by Bliss' season low 70 (-2), which placed him in a tie for 18th.
Hoefferle remained consistent with a 74 finishing 23rd, Medeiros and Fawaz both shot 82 and Valadez would go with an 83.
Whittier has now concluded their Fall season and set their sights on the Spring 2018 where they open with a tri-match with Chapman and Pomona-Pitzer at Los Serranos Golf Club on February 4.
