Men’s Golf ranked No. 66 in Division III National Polls

WHITTIER, Calif. – The first Division III 2017-18 National Polls for Men's Golf were released Wednesday by Golfstat and the Whittier College Poets find themselves at No. 66, the highest ranking achieved under Head Coach Jason Nunez. 

The Purple & Gold are coming off a tough Fall season where they took part in the CA State Intercollegiate (296-290) and Interwest Wildcat Classic (313-308).  During the Intercollegiate the Poets finished 10th but beat Pomona-Pitzer and Occidental College.

At the Interwest Wildcat Classic, Whittier beat Division II Cal State Dominguez Hills and Chico State.

The last time the Poets were ranked inside of the Top 100 was back in 2012 when they got as high as No. 24.

Leading the Poets is senior Tyler Hoefferle (San Dimas, Calif.) who is averaging a 73 with a season low 67 as he comes in ranked No. 54 in the Individual Rankings.

Other SCIAC schools that are represented within the Top 100 include:

Claremont-M-S (No. 11), Redlands (No. 19), Cal Lutheran (No. 27), Chapman (No. 29), La Verne (No. 31), Pomona-Pitzer (No. 45), and Occidental (No. 45).    

The Poets begin their Spring schedule on February 4 when they take part in a tri-match with Chapman and Pomona-Pitzer at Los Serranos Golf Club.
