Men’s Golf wins Poet Challenge

CHINO HILLS, Calif. – The Whittier College Men's Golf team took part in the first annual Poet Challenge Saturday at Los Serranos Golf Club and came away with the top finish shooting a team score of 300.

The score was the 5th lowest single round total on the season and with it, Whittier was able to beat out Occidental (302), Chapman (307), and Pomona-Pitzer (311).

The Purple & Gold had four players who shot in the 70's led by senior Tyler Bliss (Glendora, Calif.) who went off going -2 on his round for a 70 to win the individual title.  He was joined by Tyler Hoefferle (San Dimas, Calif.) and Nicholas Medeiros (Riverside, Calif.) who both tied for 7th with 76 (+4).

Alex Valadez (Anaheim, Calif.) wasn't far off as the fourth finisher with a 78 (+6).  Martin Bedino (Nequen, Neuquen, Argentina) fell into a tie for 15th with an 80 and Tiger Fawaz (San Bernardino, Calif.) rounded out the scoring with an 88.          

Whittier returns to the links next Saturday and Sunday, February 17-18 when they take part in SCIAC No. 1 in Ventura, Calif. at Olivas Links Golf Club.
