Men’s Lacrosse announces 2019 Captains

WHITTIER, Calif. – Whittier College Head Men's Lacrosse Coach Nick Marks announced his 2019 Captains Monday.  Each of the six captains embodies what it means to be a Whittier College Poet, academically, athletically, and in Whittier's campus community.

"This group of captains is extremely well-rounded," Marks explained.  "Their personalities complement each other very well and they all share in the leadership of the team. They are very experienced on the field and have proven their commitment to the program. All six of our captains embody what it means to be a Whittier College Poet. They are also a group we will depend on to make plays during crunch time. They have a done a great job holding themselves and their teammates accountable throughout the fall and winter. Our coaching staff is going to rely heavily on these leaders and we are really excited to get going with them."

No. 3 Cooper Champagne (La Mesa, Calif. – Grossmont High School)
Is a junior and a three-year starter for the Poets.  Cooper is a member of the Whittier College Dean's List and has excelled in all aspects of the men's lacrosse program on the field.  He has played as a midfielder, taking face-offs, working on the wings, and in extra man offense and man down defensive plays.  In Champagne's first two seasons he has amassed 14 goals, 4 assists, 98 shots, and 92 groundballs.  He is also an education major.

No. 5 Nate Heritage (Bellingham, WA – Bellingham High School)
A junior who is a three-year starter for the Purple & Gold.  His career statistics include 43 goals, 6 assists, 99 shots, and 30 groundballs.  He is also an art major.

No. 7 Kevin O'Donnell (Carlsbad, Calif. – Pacific Ridge High School)
A graduate student and a 5th year senior at Whittier.  He is a four-year starter and two-time captain for the Men's Lacrosse team.  Kevin has played LSM, close, and also been a face-off specialist for the Poets during his tenure.

No. 18 Dakota Turgeon (Bellingham, WA – Sehome High School)
Senior and a three-year starter for the Poets.  Turgeon's 2018 campaign was his best, posting a 61% save percentage and a 7.08 goals against average.

No. 24 Chris Burley (San Diego, Calif. – Scripps Ranch High School)
Senior and a two-year starter at midfield.  Burley has amassed 24 goals, 20 assists, 81 shots, 44 groundballs, and 16 caused turnovers in his career.

No. 31 Max Lepley (San Clemente, Calif. – San Clemente High School)
A senior and a three-year starter for the Poets.  Max was a member of the 2018 Poets defense that led the nation in caused turnovers.  In his career, Max created 77 caused turnovers and picked up 71 groundballs.
