WHITTIER, Calif. – Senior forward James Suri (Lake Forest, Calif.) completed a hat trick Saturday morning to lead the Whittier College Men's Soccer team to a 6-0 victory over Caltech at the Donald E. Graham Soccer Field.
Suri now has 10 goals on the season and is tied for 2nd Place in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Standings. He put up 13 shots on the morning with five being on goal as Whittier would unleash a barrage of shots, posting a program high 56 shots compared to Caltechs five.
The Poets would add three goals in each half coming away with their fourth victory on the season. Suri added the first two goals of the game in the 7th and 12th minutes getting fed by Sage Shepard (Corona, Calif.) and Erik Dimas (Pomona, Calif.) and Shepard would come away with the final tally in the first half being found by freshman Matteo Loi (Kirkland, WA).
In the second half Jacob Conlon (Placentia, Calif.) would get into the mix adding a quick unassisted strike five minutes into the frame. The Poets would continue getting plenty of opportunities soon after but would add the insurance goals from Suri and Loi in the 74th and 79th minutes that put away the Beavers.
Jorge Rivas (Trabuco Canyon, Calif.) finished with just one save on the game and picked up his fourth shutout on the season. Joining Suri on shots was Conlon with seven and Dimas with six.
Whittier remains at home this Wednesday, October 26 as they host La Verne in their final home game of the 2016 season. Senior Day will commence prior to kickoff.
