Poet’s finish 2nd at Pomona-Pitzer Relays

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Whittier College Men's Swimming & Diving team jump started their 2016-17 campaign this past Saturday as they finished 2nd at the Pomona-Pitzer Relays.

The field included seven programs, La Verne, Pomona-Pitzer, Redlands, Cal Lutheran, Chapman, and Concordia.

The squad of Dominic Baldwin (Lafayette, Calif.), Brandon Tran (Plainfield, Ill.), Dmitri Washington (Peoria, AZ), and Sam Sutherland (Wahiawa, HI) jump started the Poets on the morning with a 1:44.00 mark in the 200 Medley Relay.  Joining them was Trevor Tuma (Vashon Island, WA), Anders Blomso (Shoreline, WA), Titas Grabauskas (Vilnius, Lithuania), and Braden Postil (Newport Beach, Calif.) who were the second WC finishers with a 1:49.00.       

In the 500 Free, Whittier posted a third place finish thanks to Alec Holder (Irvine, Calif.), Sutherland, Michael Laws (Anacortes, WA), and Colin-James Fellezs (Mililani, HI), who clocked in at 4:24.00.

In the mixed 8x25 Free, Whittier had a strong finish with a mark of 1:40.00 coming from Washington, Laws, Holder, Sutherland, Kayla Heiss, Ashley Sagouspe, Brianna Nowicki, and Esther Choe.

Baldwin, James-Fellezs, and Washington then came up big in the 3x100 Fly finishing 2nd with a time of 2:44.00.  In the 400 Medley Relay, James-Fellezs, Baldwin, Laws, and Tran finished 3rd with a time of 3:52.00, while Tran, Baldwin, and Laws wrapped up the scoring with a 3rd place finish in the 3x100 Breaststroke with a time of 3:10.00. 

Other scoring on the morning included Holder, Laws, Washington, and Jack Hartwell in the 200 Free (1:33.00) and Postil, Tuma, Blomso, William Arnsparger (Long Beach, Calif.) with a 1:43.00.             

Whittier has their home and conference opener next Saturday, November 12 as they host Chapman University and Pomona-Pitzer beginning at 2:00pm.
