PASADENA, Calif. – The Whittier College Men's Swimming & Diving team made quick work of the California Institute of Technology Saturday morning as they cruised past the Beavers 126-78.

With the win the Poets move to .500 at 3-3 in conference action.

Out of 11 events on the day, Whittier took home 1st place recognition in eight of them led by freshman Brandon Tran (Plainfield, Ill.) and junior Sam Sutherland (Wahiawa, HI). 

Tran and Sutherland combined for six of those eight victories.  Tran winning the 200 IM (1:59.48), 100 Breast (57.48), and being a part of the 200 Medley Relay.  Sutherland won the 200 Free (1:47.68), 100 Free (47.82), and was a part of the 400 Free Relay (3:16.93).

Marko Miocic (Great Neck, NY) was another top finisher winning the 50 Free with a time of 21.70, while William Arnsparger (Long Beach, Calif.) won the 500 Free (5:06.88).

Arnsparger also took 2nd in the 1000 Free (10:52.93) followed by Anders Blomso (Shoreline, WA) in 3rd (11:40.63).

Gabriel Forbes (Upland, Calif.) and Julian Droetti (Irvine, Calif.) earned points in the 50 Free finishing 3rd and 4th with times of 23.06 and 23.50.  Freshman Michael Laws (Anacortes, WA) scored in the 200 IM behind Tran finishing 2nd with a 2:02.48 and Titas Grabauskas (Vilnius, Lithuania) took 3rd in the 100 Fly (58.00) that led a trio that went 3-4 (Dominic Baldwin (Lafayette, Calif.))-5 (Braden Postil (Newport Beach, Calif.)).

Aidan Tol (Tustin, Calif.) took 2nd in the 100 Free (49.22) and Laws finished 2nd in the 100 Back (56.76).  The team of Sutherland, Forbes, Miocic, and Tol took home first place in the 400 Free Relay that capped off the scoring.                 

Whittier returns home to the Lillian Slade Aquatic Center this Saturday, January 28 as they host the University of Redlands beginning at 11:00am with diving set to begin at 10:30am.
