WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College Men's Swimming & Diving team took part in their final regular season action this past Saturday hosting the University of Redlands (L, 234-46) and Cal Lutheran University (L, 207-48).
The 200 Medley Relay team of Spencer LaCoursiere (Delray Beach, FL), Quinn LaCoursiere (Delray Beach, FL), Scott Williams (Coronado, Calif.), and Will Arnsparger (Long Beach, Calif.) got things going with a 4th place finish with a time of 1:41.82. Then in the distance Arnsparger went 5th with a time of 18:16.61. Freshman Ruben Gallegos (Albuquerque, NM) had a strong race in the 200 Free going 12th (2:06.98) before grabbing 8th in the 500 Free (6:01.92). Yehya Nasser (Duarte, Calif.) got his first action in the 200 Breast finishing 8th with a mark of 2:59.25.
S. LaCoursiere got his first shot at the podium in the 100 Back. He finished 3rd with a time of 56.90 and then returned in the 50 Free to go 13th with a 23.57. His brother Quinn followed in the 100 Breast placing 2nd with a time of 1:00.24 and repeated that performance in the 100 Free with a time of 48.48, which was good enough for 2nd again. Williams had a podium finish in the 200 Fly, his top event placing 3rd with a time of 2:01.43 and then returned in the 200 IM placing 7th (2:12).
Tyler Chung (La Canada, Calif.) was the final Poet to score taking 14th in the 50 Free (24.52) and 13th in the 100 Fly (1:08.60). Arnsparger posted a 4th place finish in the 500 Free with a 5:07.75.
The final race the 400 Free Relay, the team of Q. LaCoursiere, S. LaCoursiere, Williams, and Arnsparger took 4th with a time of 3:22.24 capping off the day.
Whittier begins gearing up for the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships set for February 21-24 in Commerce, Calif. at the Brenda Villa Aquatic Center.
