WHITTIER, Calif. – The 2019 All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Men's Tennis honors were announced this week following a vote conducted by the league's member head coaches.
Freshman Pim Van Der Veer (Amsterdam, Netherlands) received accolades for the first time in his career landing on the 2nd Team.
In just his first season he had to take on the best but rose to the occasion posting an 8-15 overall record, which included going 2-5 in SCIAC with both wins coming against Chapman University and Occidental College. He also had a three-match winning streak mid-way through the season coming against Hardin-Simmons, Babson College, and Trinity College, while posting a solid win against Pomona-Pitzer' Jacob Schoenherr in the ITA West Regional.
In doubles he was 9-15 going 8-5 at home. He had a 2-5 record within SCIAC beating Chapman and Occidental earning both wins with Yanuck. He and Yanuck also held a six-match winning streak together beating Trinity (CT), Hobart, Puget Sound, George Fox, Linfield, and Chapman. They capped off the season with an upset win during the Ojai Championships beating the No. 4 ranked in Division III in Varun Shanker and James Wei from Caltech (8-7).
Whittier finished the season 7-12, 2-5 SCIAC with their two victories coming against Chapman University and Occidental College.
