Poets continue to compete at Occidental Invitational

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Six distance/middle-distance runners concluded their seasons in impressive fashion as some members of the Whittier College Men's & Women's Track & Field Teams took part in the Occidental Invitational.

ReyAnn Rivera got the parade of performances started with a seasonal best of 5:01.27 in the 1500m.  Great way to conclude a fabulous four-year career!  Julian Sandoval was next, breaking the four-minute barrier for a second time by clocking a 3:57.08.  The fearless freshman came back six hours later to kick past Oxys top two distance runners, and achieve a 14:54.59 in the 5000m, which is the second fastest all-time at Whittier College.

Julissa Tobias achieved her goal of breaking the 18-minute barrier by posting a lifetime best 17:55.51 5000m, which is No. 3 on the Whittier all-time list for the event.  Jessica Iribe also eclipsed her personal best with an 18:38.23 5K ranking No. 8 all-time at WC.  Ruben Solorza achieved a seasonal best 15:12.28 5000m and holds the No. 6 spot all-time (3-mile conversions included) for 5000m.  He and Tobias depart Monday for a cross country training camp in Denmark and Ireland.  Kevin Huey made us stay up late by racing the final event of the evening...  It was worth the wait!!!  In what was likely Huey's final track race as a Poet, he made it his best ever by posting a lifetime best 15:19.29 5K, the No. 11 best all-time for Whittier (3-mile conversions included)!
