Robert Neely is in his third season as the Whittier College Head Men’s & Women’s Track & Field coach.
2018: Under Neely’s leadership, the team broke nine school records, produced ten All-SCIAC athletes and seven NCAA West Region honors.
Prior to Whittier, Neely worked for Pomona-Pitzer Cross Country and Track and Field programs where he served as the interim head coach for the 2016 season, while conducting recruiting coordinator duties.
Neely joined the Sagehens after serving as a volunteer assistant coach for jumping and multi events at UC Davis, his alma mater, during the 2012-13 season. His efforts helped the Aggies Women’s Track and Field team earn a Big West Championship in 2013.
As a collegiate athlete, Neely qualified for the NCAA Division I West Regionals in the long jump at UC Davis, earning a top distance of 7.40 meters (24 feet, 3.5 inches). He finished as the runner-up in the long jump in the Big West Conference as a junior in 2011, and was named a team captain his senior year. He earned the UC Davis Most Improved Athlete honor in 2011, and also earned the Aggie Impact Award.
A native of Atascadero, Calif., Neely graduated from UC Davis with Bachelor’s degrees in exercise biology and psychology. He then obtained a Master’s degree in coaching and athletic administration from Concordia University Irvine. He holds a USATF Level 1 certification and a USATF Level 2 Certification in Jumps/Vault.
