WHITTIER, Calif. – For the second straight week, a Whittier College Men's Water Polo player was recognized as the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Athlete of the Week.
Freshman Hans Zdolsek (Linkoping, Sweden) received the honor this week in the fourth week of voting announced by the conference office Monday. Fellow freshman Carlos Heredia Viteri (Commerce, Calif.) won the award last week.
Zdolsek helped the Poets to a 3-0 week with SCIAC victories over La Verne (13-12) and Redlands (6-4), as well as a non-conference upset win over Loyola-Marymount (13-9) who was ranked No. 19 in the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Varsity Top 20 poll. Zdolsek totaled six goals and three assists during the three-game stretch including a game-winning strike against the Leopards. He also netted four of Whittier's six markers in the win over Redlands before chipping in a goal and an assist against Loyola Marymount. During the three-game stretch he also added seven steals.
