WHITTIER, Calif. – For the second straight game the Whittier College Men's Water Polo team has put up 20 goals as they rolled the University of La Verne 20-9 at the Lillian Slade Aquatic Center.

The Purple & Gold are finding offense from everywhere as nine different players found the back of the net.  Whittier improves to 14-10, 10-1 SCIAC and sit in first place in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) standings.

Whittier opened up with a 5-0 first quarter and extended their run to eight straight midway through the second before ULV was able to get on the board.  After a last second goal that capped off the second quarter, the Poets led 9-2 at the break and kept the momentum going in the third as they tacked on five in a row that opened the game up at 14-2.

The Leos were able to add two in the latter stages of the third quarter but again WC led big 15-4 heading into the fourth.  La Verne managed to add five goals over the final eight minutes against the Poet reserves but Whittier was able to match-it with five of their own to own the lopsided win.

Murat Ersoz (Istanbul, Turkey) started the game off and finished with eight saves and two steals.  Andrew Wettstead (Fresno, Calif.) came in relief and posted four saves and a steal in the fourth quarter.

Whittier outshot La Verne 35-27 and was 4-9 on power plays, while collecting 15 steals.  Hans Zdolsek (Linkoping, Sweden) and Cornelis Kriek (Pretoria, South Africa) each added four goals to lead the offensive unit, while Tim Aakhus (Bakersfield, Calif.) chipped in with three goals and two steals.

Whittier looks to keep their winning streak intact as they travel to take on the University of Redlands this Wednesday, November 1 at 7:00pm.
