REDLANDS, Calif. – The Whittier College Men's Water Polo team suffered another tough loss as they fell 7-6 on the road to the University of Redlands.

The Purple & Gold now drop to 8-11, 3-3 SCIAC, with two of the three losses coming by a goal differential.

Despite being shutout in the second half, the Poets still managed to cling to a 6-4 lead going into the fourth.  But Redlands was able to comeback with three over the final eight minutes to pull off the big win.

Hans Zdolsek (Linkoping, Sweden) got WC going with three goals in the first quarter helping them hold a 3-2 lead.  In the second, Whittier extended their advantage with Ricardo Reyes Jr. (Commerce, Calif.), Kalani Fouts (Capitola, Calif.), and Chad Portugal (La Habra Heights, Calif.) finding the back of the net moving the score to 6-3.  But that was the last offense generated as the Bulldogs would hold the Poets high powered offense scoreless over the final 16:00 minutes, while adding one in the 3rd and three in the 4th to complete the comeback.

Whittier outshot Redlands 32-28 and was just 1-for-4 on power-plays.

Murat Ersoz (Istanbul, Turkey) played all 32:00 minutes and finished with 13 saves and three steals.

Whittier remains on the road next Tuesday, October 16 as they take on Chapman University beginning at 7:00pm.
